Cast Iron Pan-Seared Steak Recipe
The steak is marinated in the refrigerator for 45 minutes, then quickly fried in a cast iron pan before cooking.
Cast Iron Pan-Seared Steak (Oven-Finished) is a delicious and popular way to cook steak that results in a perfectly seared exterior with a juicy, tender interior. Here’s how you can make it:
Ingredients:
- 1-2 thick-cut steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or filet mignon)
- Salt
- Pepper
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- Garlic cloves (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F.
- Season your steaks generously with salt and pepper on both sides. Let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot, add the vegetable oil.
- Once the oil starts to shimmer, add the steaks to the skillet. Sear the steaks for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until a nice crust forms. If you like garlic, you can also add a few cloves to the pan at this point.
- Add the butter to the pan and let it melt. Using a spoon, baste the steaks with the melted butter for about a minute.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and let the steaks cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, depending on how you like your steak cooked. For medium-rare, aim for an internal temperature of 130°F. For medium, aim for 140°F.
- Remove the skillet from the oven and let the steaks rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute and results in a more tender steak.
- Slice and serve with your favorite sides. Enjoy!
Note: The cook time will depend on the thickness of your steak, so it’s best to use a meat thermometer to ensure your steak is cooked to your desired temperature.
