Citric Acid

  • It is added to jams and pickles to give it a delicious flavour.
  • It is used as an emulsifier for fats, especially in organic industries, such as cheese and ice cream.

Side Effects of Citric Acid

  • It may cause nausea and vomiting.
  • Severe diarrhea, with blood in the stool, and a change in the color of the stool to red or black.
  • Possibility of some stomach diseases.
  • Some side effects occur, such as swelling of the extremities and some tingling in the muscles.
  • Feeling of general weakness.
  • Heart rate fluctuations and irregularity.
  • Some mood and psychological changes occur, such as insomnia, confusion, and feelings of anxiety.
  • Some cramps and numbness in the hands and feet occur.
  • Weight gain, with swelling in different parts of the body.
  • High blood pressure, which may lead to preeclampsia in pregnant women.
