Difference between a Meteor and a Meteorite

Have you ever seen a shooting star in the night sky and wondered how that star falls? Or beyond a star or something else we see flying below? What is the name of this shiny thing? A meteor, asteroid or comet? How do we distinguish these things? The world is bombarded with tons of space dust and other minor objects. There is a car-sized asteroid that enters the Earth’s atmosphere but burns up even before it reaches the surface.

When a meteorite hits the Earth’s atmosphere, it does so at high speed, giving it an attractive, fireball-like appearance. So a shooting star is a meteor not a star. There are different types of stars depending on their size and brightness.
