It is important to understand the difference between LCD and LED because the two are closely related and can be confused. LCD is short for liquid crystal display and LED is short for light emitting diode. They differ from each other in that LCDs typically use fluorescent light, while lamps use light-emitting diodes.

Differences Between LCD and LED

The LCD and LED screen are very similar because the technology behind these screens is the same. Different types of TVs have two different layers of polarized glass and through this glass liquid crystals block and let light pass so this is one of the main differences and similarities between LCDs and LEDs.

  • It is a type of flat screen display technology that uses diodes, small cells and ionized gas to create images.
  • The LCD works on the principle of dimming.
  • It also deals with the modulation of light where modulation is the process of sending and receiving signals through light.

Differences Between LCD and LED

LCD stands for liquid crystal display. LED stands for light-emitting diodes.
All LCDs are not a subset of LED TV. All LEDs are a subset of LCD TV.
LCDs primarily use fluorescent lights. LEDs use light-emitting diodes.
Fluorescent lights used are usually placed behind the screen. Light-emitting diodes are usually placed behind the screen or around the edges.
LCDs are usually thicker and lack energy efficiency compared to LEDs. LEDs are much thinner and are much more energy-efficient.
