Embassy
Embassies were formerly a group of people traveling on a mission from one state to another state. They represent their country to a host country.
Today, an embassy is a mission to represent one country to another on a permanent basis. It is an office of diplomatic representatives of one country in the capital city of another.
They are protected by International Law. Embassies enjoy the extraterritorial status, this means that although the territory belongs to the host nation, it is not bound by local law, and therefore, they are treated as part of the territory to which they belong.
Whoever heads the diplomatic mission is known as an ambassador. Missions to the United Nations are permanent missions and therefore their representative is known as an ambassador.
consulate
It comes from the Latin consulates, a term linked to a consul or person appointed by a government whose purpose is to protect to protect the interests of a country abroad. The consulate is the consul’s office. It is the representation of the public administration of one country in another which contributes with its own representatives in the following functions:
- Renew and grant official documents
- Issue birth, marriage, and death certificates.
- Control the legitimacy of judicial proceedings and offer attention and care to the citizens of the country they represent.
- They offer information on visas to foreigners and residence and work permits. They establish visas.

Differences between embassy and consulate
- An embassy is the diplomatic representation of one government on the territory of another. They transmit the messages between the government of the country they represent and the government of their country of residence.
- Consulates are the representation of the public administration of your country abroad. You work for citizens of your country who are in the state where they reside.
