Gate and door
The terms gate and gate define two completely different objects with varied functions. A door is a building element with various applications and uses made of various materials. A gate can be a mechanical element that regulates the passage of a fluid or an electronic element known as a logic gate.
Door
It is a complement to construction with diverse applications, uses, and locations. It is made of materials such as wood, glass, plastic, or aluminum. It is used to separate rooms, facilitating isolation or passage between them. It has metal hardware known as hinges and can have bolts, padlocks, locks, and other accessories.
The term has its origin in the Roman Empire. When a city was founded, its perimeter was traced with a plow, the furrow should not be crossed because it was conferred a sacred character. In order to enter and leave the city, access spaces were limited where the plow was raised and the furrow was discontinued.
A door is composed of a lintel, skirt, sill, jambs, machetes, jamabaje, threshold, windowsill, portal, opening, and tympanum.
It also has mechanical elements such as locks, a set of mobile elements that allow the door to be locked from one side or both, bevel, hinges, slices, trolleys in the case of sliding doors, knob and key.
Gate
A gate is an element that regulates the passage of a fluid. In the case of hydraulic gates, we have a hydraulic-mechanical device that regulates the passage of water or fluids in canals, dams, pipes, locks, and diversion works.
There are various types of gates such as:
- Gates for upstream level control: AMIS gate.
- Gates for downstream level control: AVIS gate.
- Automatic gates for level control.
- Visor type hatch.
- Roof-type hatch.
- Drum type gate.
- Stoney type hatch.
- Segment type gate.
- Sector type gate.
- Rolling type gate.
- Lizard type hatch.
- Lock-type gate.
- Cylinder-type gate.
- Tilting type gate.
- Coffer-type hatch.
- Ring gate.
Also considered gates to the valves of the pipes and the logic gates, these are switching circuits integrated in a chip to achieve Boolean functions.
Difference between gate and door
- A door is an architectural element whose main function is to divide two spaces in a structure and allow or prohibit the passage between them.
- Agate is a mechanical element whose purpose is to regulate the passage of a fluid. In the case of electronics, it is a component that acts as a logic gate in a switching circuit.
