Independence

The concept of independence as a political concept appeared with the Declaration of Independence of the USA in 1776 before European colonialism and was extended with the Act of Independence of Haiti and the declarations of the Spanish-American countries that would depend on the Spanish empire. Independence is the formation or restoration of one country by separating from another.

Independence is also a condition of an individual or an organism that has no dependency on an agent other than themselves. It is the quality of individuals who have the condition to defend and develop.

Independence needs freedom, to be able to decide and the staging of actions that do not depend on an order established by some external agent.

Autonomy

Autonomy comes from the Latin word auto which means “oneself” and nomo which means the norm. This means that autonomy is the capacity that an entity has to establish its rules and to be governed to make decisions.

For psychology, autonomy is the ability of an individual to think, feel, and make decisions. This encompasses a series of characteristics or elements that relate to personal self-management.

In the political aspect, autonomy defines those countries or regions that have some freedom to establish their laws and government but respond to a central government.
