The central processing unit or CPU of a computer is known as a processor. It is the hardware inside a computer or a programmable device that interprets those instructions given by a computer program by performing arithmetic, logic, and system input or output operations.

A computer can have more than one CPU and this is known as multiprocessing. CPUs have several microprocessors found on an integrated circuit. Some even have multiple CPUs on a single chip and are known as multi-core processors.

Microprocessor

The microprocessor is a central integrated circuit. It is the most complex circuit in a computer system and is known as the brain of a computer.

It is responsible for executing programs, from the operating system to applications, it only executes instructions programmed in low-level language when performing simple arithmetic and logical operations.

It can contain one or more central processing units or CPUs made up of registers, control units, an arithmetic logic unit, and a calculation unit as afloat.

It is connected through a specific socket to the motherboard of a computer, for its operation, a cooling system is incorporated that has a heat sink and one or more fans.
