An ulcer can be simply defined as the presence of a wound or injury. There are different types of ulcers and the exact causes vary. According to research – stress, spicy food, infectious diseases and alcohol consumption are the main factors associated with its causes.

No matter where ulcers appear on or in our bodies, few of them disappear on their own, while others require treatment to prevent serious complications. Causes, symptoms and treatments often vary.

Gastric ulcers occur when the thick protective mucus of the stomach wears down. This lining protects the stomach from digestion.

Causes of Ulcer

Ulcers can be caused by one of the following reasons.

  • It can be caused by H. pylori infection.
  • Long-term use of medications such as aspirin, naproxen and ibuprofen.
  • A rare condition called Zollinger-Ellison syndrome can also cause ulcers. In this case, the acid production of the body increases.
