Vitamin Biotin is one of the vitamins belonging to the Vitamin B group, and is also known as Vitamin B7, or Vitamin H. It is one of the vitamins that the body cannot manufacture.

Therefore, it must be obtained from food. This vitamin helps the body manufacture protein and process glucose, and it is also involved in many functions in the body.

Sources of Vitamin H

There are many foods that contain biotin, and its most important food sources include the following:

  • Organ meat such as liver and kidneys.
  • Nuts such as pistachios, peanuts, walnuts and almonds.
  • Yeast.
  • Whole grain bread.
  • Salmon and sardines.
  • Avocado and banana.
  • Mushrooms and cauliflower.
  • yolk.

Vitamin H Functions

Biotin is very important for health, as it has many functions in the body, including the following:

  • It helps metabolize protein, fats, and carbohydrates.
  • Maintains hair, skin, and mucous membranes.
  • Supports the functions of the nervous system.
  • Improves psychological factors.
  • Reduces inflammation.
  • It lowers blood sugar for people with diabetes.
  • Increases levels of beneficial cholesterol and reduces levels of harmful cholesterol.

Vitamin H Deficiency

Biotin deficiency in the body is rare, but this deficiency may lead to the appearance of the following signs:

  • Hair loss.
  • Skin rash around the eyes, nose, mouth, and genitals.
  • Tongue ulceration.
  • Anorexia. Dry eyes.
  • Depression.
  • Exhaustion and fatigue.
  • Hallucinations.
  • Numbness in the hands and legs.
  • Weak immune system and exposure to many diseases.
