During its development, it was made compatible with Vista applications and it was given an improved interface to make it more user-friendly. It is a stable, light, and very fast system.
Windows 7 has several versions, each one with different functionalities than the previous one in an attempt to adapt to each type of user. There are 6 editions, they are built on top of each other and only two of them are available for common users, Home Premium and Professional, to these, the Starter, Home Basic, and Ultimate versions are added, as well as the Enterprise version, dedicated to companies with Open or Select licenses from Microsoft.
Windows 7 versions
Starter
It is the version with the least functionalities, it has an incomplete version of the famous Aero interface so it does not include effects such as Flip 3D, Glass transparency, previews of the launch bars and it does not allow modifying the desktop background. It is the ideal operating system for Limited Hardware PCs. It is not available for 46-bit hardware (being the only edition with this feature). It has restrictions on customization and programs.
Home Basic
This is a version with many more connectivity and customization features than Starter, although Aero is still incomplete.
Home Premium
It includes Windows Media Center, all the features of previous versions, the full Aero interface and has support for multiple codecs of multimedia file formats.
Professional
It can be said that it is equivalent to Vista Business, it includes all the functions of the previous version plus “Data Protection” and “Advanced Backup”, it has a managed network with support for domains, file encryption, and localized network printing through Location Aware Printing.
Ultimate
It includes many more security and data protection features such as Bitlocker for both external and internal hard drives, has Applocker, BranchCache, Direct Access, and supports virtualized images of hard drives in addition to a multilanguage package with 35 languages.
Enterprise
In this edition, you will find all the features of Windows 7 Ultimate plus all those functions necessary to assist IT organizations. It is only available for sale in bulk under the Microsoft Software Assurance Enterprise Agreement. This is the only subscription-eligible version for the MDOP Desktop Optimization Package.
Editions N
These are editions available as updates for Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate. They have similar specifications to the equivalent versions but do not include multimedia software. You can download it yourself from the Microsoft page.
