What Is An Epidemic Disease?
Epidemics of infectious and contagious diseases. The spread of disease in a region or area. It spreads when an infectious agent and a susceptible host are present in large quantities. The following factors can cause a pandemic.
- A recent increase in the amount.
- The recent introduction of the agent in an area where it was never present before.
- Enhanced mode of transmission, so that more people are susceptible to it.
- Change in the host’s susceptibility to the agent.
- Increased host exposure by the introduction of new portals of entry.
Types of Epidemic Diseases
- Point Source
An influenza pandemic is a period in which all patients are infected from a single source.
- Continuous Source
Influenza when a causative agent such as contaminated water and food infects people over a long period of time is known as a continuous source.

This is a type of flu in which the causative agent can be passed from person to person, causing the flu to spread.
Examples of Epidemic Diseases
- Cholera is a waterborne disease spread by bacteria. Cholera is the third most famous epidemic in the world. It originated in India and later spread beyond the borders of India.
- This is a respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus. It is believed to have been transmitted to animals and killed many people.
- A rare and deadly virus that causes body aches, fever and diarrhea. Transmitted by wild animals. It proved to be a mass murderer.
What Is A Pandemic Disease?
An epidemic disease is a disease that spreads over a large area, such as several continents, or around the world. The HIV virus.
The flu is another contagious disease and has happened more than once. COVID-19 is another recent example. The flu is caused by a new infectious agent that does not cause disease.
It has a higher death rate than epidemics. Antibiotic resistance and increased mobility have increased disease risk in humans.
